Volusia County Green
Building Program
On
December 17, 2009 the Volusia County Council
approved the county’s first voluntary Green
Building Program resolution. The resolution
provides incentives for fast-tracked permits
and reduced fees to promote efficient new
construction and remodeling of residential
and commercial buildings.
Funded with $50,000 from a federal stimulus
grant, the program sunsets in 2012 or when
$50,000 is expended, unless reauthorized by
Council.
Participation in the program is voluntary
for all new residential or commercial
construction, residential or commercial
remodeling, and land development within
unincorporated Volusia County.
Program incentives include expedited
permitting for building permits, public
exposure as a “green” builder, and a rebate
of 50% of application fees up to:
• $600 for a residential building permit
• $1,500 for a commercial building permit
• $2,500 for a land development application
The program requires third party
certification through: Florida Green
Building Coalition, United States Green
Building Coalition, National Association of
Home Builders, or the Green Building
Initiative.
How to
apply:
1. Obtain application from the Volusia
County Building Department
2. Submit application for expedited
processing
3. Upon completion of project, submit the
third-party certification stating the
construction is in compliance with any of
the above mentioned standards for review by
Volusia County staff.
4. If project is accepted by a third-party
and staff approves the application, Volusia
County will provide a rebate check as
described above.
